Lost My Career, Found My Calling: Wound Care and PT Inspired by Presque Isle’s Breakwalls

As a physical therapist in Erie who’s spent years guiding people through recovery from falls, surgeries, accidents, wounds, and chronic conditions, I’ve witnessed true resilience firsthand. It looks a lot like the sturdy breakwalls along Presque Isle—and like the unyielding strength of my patients facing forces determined to pull them under.

Of course, I’ve felt life’s waves crash over me too: Type 1 Diabetes hitting at age 12, workplace burnout as an adult, and most recently, losing the wound care career I loved in an instant.

I felt sad, lost, directionless, and unmotivated. I even considered leaving physical therapy altogether because I couldn’t picture a future without wound care. Then the spark came: I’d start my own practice. A mobile one—more personal, more patient-centered—bringing physical therapy and wound care directly to people’s homes.

But what to call it?

Growing up in Erie, PA, I’ve always been drawn to Presque Isle. Beyond its beaches and stunning sunsets stand those enduring breakwalls: long lines of stone and concrete built to absorb Lake Erie’s full fury head-on. They don’t flinch in howling winds or crashing waves; they stand firm, shielding the shore, dunes, and everyone who calls this place home.

That’s why I named my practice Breakwall Wound Care and Rehab LLC.

If you’re struggling with a stubborn wound, a slow surgery recovery, or even the winter blues making movement feel impossible—know you’re not alone.

And if you need someone to stand with you through the storm, I’m here. In-home wound care and rehab isn’t just my work—it’s personal. It’s about facing whatever comes together, staying strong side by side.

Have a story about weathering an Erie storm—literal or figurative? Share it in the comments. I’d love to hear how you’ve kept standing tall.
